In the short time since Steve Brown has been back in San Diego, the enterprising chef has been working ambitiously to establish a presence in the local culinary scene, from settling his Cosecha pop-up into a Coronado space where he intends to anchor a future prix-fixe menu-based restaurant to forming a partnership with Ironfire Brewing Company to build The Shipping Yard, a casual beer-focused eatery in Imperial Beach.
And starting this Friday, February 3, Brown will launch a weekly residence at a semi-secret location in the heart of Barrio Logan, with ticket holders receiving the exact address closer to the event date. The first $75 event, scheduled from 7 to 9:30 p.m., is a collaboration with Fernando Gaxiola of Baja Wine + Food that features tray-passed bites and a chef station, but Brown says that future installments will range from partnerships with guest chefs to fine dining nights and previews of the menu he’ll feature at The Shipping Yard. After this Friday’s introductory pop-up, the chef is headed to Japan for a tour with the sponsor company behind A-5 Satsuma Wagyu beef, but will be in Barrio Logan weekly starting February 24.
